The Former Residence of Marquis Kacho in Kamakura

There is the residence of Marquis Hironobu KACHO which was built in Kamakura in spring of 1929.  The magnificent house is called Kachônomiyatei. The building, along with Kamakura Museum of Literature, is one of the largest Western-style private house incorporates the Kanagawa Prefecture.

Kachonomiya is a Miyake (family allowed to have the status of Imperial family) which was established in 1868 by Imperial Prince Kachônomiya Hirotsune, who was the twelfth prince of Fushimi no Miya Imperial Prince Kuniie. In other words that is Fushimi no Miya's family line. He named it The Former Residence of Marquis Kacho from Mt. Kachô of honorific mountain prefix. By the way, the current Imperial family, as well, is from the Fushimi no Miya line, they are from the male descendant of Fushimi no Miya Imperial Prince Sadafusa.

 October 2006: The former residence was designated as a registered tangible cultural property (building) of Japan. In addition, the former residence is selected as one of Japan's Top 100 Historical Parks.

 The details are unclear how rooms were used in those days when Marquis Kacho lived. The garden is now open to the general public as The Former Residence of Kachô. In the French-style garden, we can enjoy seasonal flowers and trees, including splendid roses and hydrangeas.

 The facilities are opened to the public (building inside exhibition) is held at the Western-style private house twice every year, in spring and autumn.

鎌倉には、1929年(昭和4年)に建てられた、旧華頂宮邸(華頂博信侯爵邸)という趣ある洋風建築があります。県内にある戦前の洋風住宅建築としては鎌倉文学館とともに最大規模の建築物です。
　さて、華頂宮家をご存知ですか？
華頂宮家とは、伏見宮邦家（ふしみのみやくにいえ）親王第１２男子、博經（ひろつね）親王を始祖とし、伏見宮家のいわゆる分家にあたります。1868年（明治元年）に華頂宮家を創設しました。知恩院の山号「華頂山」にちなんで華頂宮の称を賜りました。ちなみに、現在の天皇家も伏見宮家の系統であり、伏見宮貞成（さだふさ）親王の男系子孫です。


　2006年（平成１８年）10月に国の登録有形文化財（建造物）に指定されました。「日本の歴史公園100選」にも選ばれています。当時、諸室がどのように使われていたかなどを含めて詳細は不明です。現在旧華頂宮邸の庭園部分は一般に公開されています。フランス式庭園では、バラやアジサイなど四季折々の花や緑を楽しむことができます。春と秋の年に２回、計４日間、施設公開（建物内部公開）を実施しています。

私は10月4日の施設公開の日行ってきました。次回はそのことについてアップする予定です。
